Brazil pork exports grow 9.3% in July

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reports that Brazilian exports of pork reached 105.3 thousand tons in July, surpassing by 9.3% the total exported in the same period of 2022, with 96.3 thousand tones.

The revenue generated with the shipments of the month of July totalled $249.9 million, a balance 12.1% higher than that recorded in the same period of 2022, with $222.4 million.

In the accumulated of 2023 (January to July), international sales of pork remain high by 14.6%, with 695.1 thousand tons exported, compared to 606.5 thousand tons in 2022. In the same period, the revenue generated by sales reached $1,663 billion, a balance 24.3% higher than the total recorded last year, with $1,337 billion.

“For the fifth month in a row, pork exports exceed the total volume of 100,000 tons. There are good expectations regarding the performance of the sector’s shipments for the year, with indications of record potential,” says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.

China remains the largest importer of pork from Brazil, with 38.3 thousand tons imported in July alone, maintaining practically stability (-0.1%) compared to the same month of 2022. Sales to the Philippines were also highlighted, with 11.4 thousand tons (+38 %), Hong Kong, with 7.8 thousand tons (+8%) and Chile, with 6.9 thousand tons (+107%).

“The positive projections for the year are supported, especially by the influence of sales to recently opened destinations, such as Canada, Mexico, Peru, in addition to others such as the recent expansion of authorizations, such as Singapore, with processed pork products, ” says ABPA’s market director, Luís Rua.

The largest exporter of pork in the country, Santa Catarina embarked 54.3 thousand tons in July, a volume 5.8% higher than that recorded in the same period last year. Second, Rio Grande do Sul exported 28.7 thousand tons (+34.1%). At the third post, Paraná exported 13,000 tons (-3.1%).
