Santa Catarina accounted for 56.2% of the volume and 58.1% of the revenue of Brazilian pork exports in the first six months of this year. The largest increase in the first half of the year came from pork exports, which reached 331.3 thousand tons, up 3.6% compared to shipments in the first half of 2023.

Shipments to most major destinations grew by the same amount, especially to the Philippines (up 54% in volume and 37.2% in revenue), Japan (107.6% and 97.6%) and South Korea (231.3% and 156.7%). Shipments to China, on the other hand, decreased in volume by 43.3%.

These results are due to the recovery of the Chinese pork industry after a long period of negative effects from the African swine fever outbreaks that have affected the country since 2018. As a result, China has lost its lead in the ranking of pork export destinations from Santa Catarina. The Philippines is now the leading destination, accounting for 22.3% of exports.
