In October, Australia sold more than 384.7 thsd tonnes of canola to the foreign markets, which is almost 9 times more than the total sales of the oilseed in the same month last year (39.96 thsd tonnes) and 5% higher than in September (366.4 thsd tonnes). Grain Central reports with reference to the data of the National Statistics Bureau.

“The difference between the figures for October 2022 and October 2023 reflects the early start of the harvest this year, which is in sharp contrast to the late and slow start of the harvest a year earlier,” the report says.

France became the largest importer of Australian canola in the reporting period, purchasing 98.35 thsd tonnes of the oilseed. It was followed by Japan and Mexico – 82.8 thsd tonnes and 81.43 thsd tonnes respectively. Large shipments were also sent to Pakistan (45 thsd tonnes), Bangladesh (35 thsd tonnes) and Greece (20 thsd tonnes).

It should be noted that over the last three months (August-October) Australia exported more than 1.1 mln tons of canola. Japan purchased the most oilseeds during this period – 337 thsd tonnes.
