August wheat exports from Russia hit a record high
A monthly record 5.2 MMT was exported in August (almost three times as much as in July and up 12% from August 2020/21). 7.1 MMT had been exported this season (+1% y-o-y), UkrAgroConsult reports.
As before, the top importer is Turkey, which absorbs 26% of total wheat exports from Russia.
The share of the ‘Others’ category, which consists mostly of shipments to Iran, increases as well – almost 1.2 MMT this season, or 22 times more than a year earlier.
Most buyers increased wheat imports from Russia compared to the same time last year: Turkey (+42%), Nigeria (+28%), Israel (+10%), Saudi Arabia (fivefold), Tanzania (+47%), Kazakhstan (+65%).
The following countries reduced purchases from last season: Egypt (-11%), Azerbaijan (-49%), Kenya (-3%).
