Argentina cuts biodiesel production
In January – March, and possibly in April, the production of biodiesel in Argentina will remain at a very low level due to a reduction in export demand and domestic consumption, – reports the Oilworld agency.
According to experts, in December 2023, the consumption of biodiesel in the country amounted to only 15 thousand tons (compared to 58 thousand tons in December 2022), which corresponds to the blending of biodiesel at the level of 1.4%, although the mandate is 7.5%.
Argentina’s consumption of soybean oil for biodiesel production in the first and second quarters will also remain low unless the country’s authorities change domestic consumption mandates and biofuel policies.
Oil World experts believe that the Argentine authorities apparently abandoned their original plan to liberalize the biofuel market in the country, so they have not yet made changes to the relevant legislation.
