During his visit to the African Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on Russia to renew the grain deal. This was reported by The Guardian. Later it became known that the call to resume the agreement was made by the leader of the entire African Union – 55 countries, Politico adds.

Wiese said that it was “important to reach an agreement” to renew the deal. A forum for African countries organized by the occupying country was held in St. Petersburg on July 27-28.

“The problem of grain and fertilizers concerns everyone,” President Azali Assoumani of the Comoros, who heads the 55-nation African Union, told a Russian news agency.

The BBC reported that the forum was also attended by the owner of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was actually exiled to Belarus after the failed coup. In the photo from the forum, Prigozhin shook hands with the ambassador of the Central African Republic, the country where his mercenaries are present.

During the forum, Russia promised to give African countries grain, possibly the grain it had stolen from Ukraine. Against the backdrop of its unilateral withdrawal from the grain agreement and deliberate shelling of the port infrastructure of Odesa region, from which grain was exported, Moscow is trying to pretend to be a serious player in the grain market.
