According to Chris Carter, acting head of the Australian Grain Export Innovation Centre, most African countries are projected to experience rapid population growth, urbanization and dynamic economic development. This allows to consider this region as an additional market for Australian grain products, according to Grain Central.

The expert notes that by 2035, the population of Africa will almost increase by 400 million people, which will require expanding local production of crops, as well as increasing the supply of grain products and finding new reliable sources of its imports.

However, Carter notes that the Australian grain industry must continue to turn its attention to serving growing consumption in North and Southeast Asia, which are higher-paying markets.

According to the expert, Australia should focus in Africa primarily on importing grain expertise and technology. In addition, East African countries can be used as hubs for Australian grain, due to the convenience of further transportation to such African countries as Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania and others.
