About 30 ships stopped in Izmail after Russian strikes on Danube ports

About 30 ships stopped near Izmail after Russia destroyed grain depots on the Danube River on Monday. This was reported by Reuters.

According to the publication’s calculations based on vessel tracking data from the analytical company MarineTraffic, about 29 vessels stopped near Izmail, among them also chemical tankers. Another three vessels also anchored along the waterway leading to the Reni-Odesa terminal.

Insurance industry sources said war risk coverage for Ukraine’s ports, which was part of a preliminary grain agreement, has been suspended. Three sources said on Monday that some insurers were also considering whether to continue providing coverage for ports on the Danube.

David Smith, head of hull and marine liabilities at insurance broker McGill, said that since the collapse of the grain agreement and increased attacks on ports and infrastructure by Russia, war risk insurers were “forming their own independent views and deciding what they were prepared to underwrite”.

As previously reported, on the night of July 24, Russia attacked the Danube ports with Shahed-136 drones for almost 4 hours.
