A transshipment terminal has been launched on the Ukrainian-Romanian border

The Romanian private rail freight company Grampet Group, which owns Grup Feroviar Român, has opened a newly built grain transshipment terminal near the border with Ukraine, Railfreight reports.

On Friday, May 31, the opening ceremony of the terminal took place. The facility is located in Dornesti.

The innovation is expected to improve communication with the port of Constanta. To facilitate transshipment, the terminal uses equipment similar to that of Romanian river and sea ports.

The terminal’s design ensures continuous operation 24 hours a day. Its maximum capacity is 3 million tons of cargo. The loading and unloading stations can handle eight railcars simultaneously, which ensures a processing speed of 500 tons per hour.

Grampet Group emphasized that the terminal is important for Ukraine. “Romania has played and continues to play a significant role in the functioning of the ‘solidarity routes’ with the European Union to facilitate the transportation of grain from Ukraine, which is important for food security in underdeveloped regions of Africa and Asia, as well as commercial flows at the global level,” said Gruiu Stoica, owner of Grampet Group.

He specified that this is the fifth terminal operated by Grampet Group through its parent company Grup Feroviar Român. “The investment marks a new stage in the group’s efforts to optimize rail infrastructure in the region and support Ukraine’s reconstruction,” added Gruja Stojka.
