A quarter of this year’s grain harvest is enough for Ukraine’s own needs, the rest will be exported – Shmyhal
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that a quarter of this year’s grain harvest is enough for Ukraine’s own needs. He said this on the day of commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Kyiv at the second international summit “Grain from Ukraine”.
“Russia has stolen millions of tons of grain worth about $1 billion from the occupied Ukrainian territories. It seeks to exacerbate the global food crisis as much as possible. But Ukrainian agricultural exports have been and will continue to be a stabilizing factor in the global food market. This year’s harvest forecast for Ukraine is over 79 million tons. For domestic needs, 25% is enough, and the rest is sent to countries where there is a threat of hunger,” Shmyhal said.
He noted that 30 countries and international organizations have joined the Grain from Ukraine program, which has raised $180 million. 170 thousand tons of food were sent to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. Another 25 thousand tons will be sent to Nigeria.
The Prime Minister noted that Russia must be severely punished for its aggression, massacres and theft of Ukrainian grain.
As a reminder, the Grain from Ukraine International Summit was held in Kyiv today. Its participants discussed countering Russian aggression, sanctions against Russia, protecting the grain corridor, strengthening Ukraine’s air defense for these purposes, and countering the sale of stolen Ukrainian grain that Russia exports from the temporarily occupied territories of our country.
