2023/24 Argentina Corn 70% Planted, 11% Pollinated

Overall, the weather in Argentina has been improving over the last several weeks and the forecast for this week looks benign with a mix of sun and rain. Northern Argentina received the most rainfall last week with some areas recording localized flooding. Hailstorms were recorded last week primarily in southeast and southwest Buenos Aires. There is also a risk of summer frost this week in the highlands of southern Buenos Aires.

The Argentine corn estimate was left unchanged this week at 53.0 million tons, but if the weather continues to cooperate, the corn estimate could move higher by a couple of million tons.

Corn in Argentina was 69.9% planted as of late last week compared to 62.9% last year and 74.9% average. This represents an advance of 11.3% for the week. In the core production area, the corn is 95% planted with 85-95% planted in southern Argentina and 5-10% planted in far northern Argentina. The corn in Argentina is 11% pollinating.

The corn is rated 1% poor/very poor, 61% fair, and 38% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage is up 1% from the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn is rated 11% short/very short and 87% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is up 6% from the prior week.
