2022 U.S. Soybean Crop 78% Planted and 56% Emerged
The 2022 U.S. soybean crop is 78% planted and 56% emerged. The slowest soybean planting is also in the northwestern Corn Belt while the fastest planting is in the central Corn Belt. The first soybean condition rating will be issued next week and it should be similar to the corn rating.
The soybean acreage is uncertain due to corn planting delays in the northwestern Corn Belt and if farmers switched some of their intended corn to soybeans. The June Planted Report will give us a better idea about the soybean acreage, but it probably will not be the final word.
Therefore, the 2022 U.S. soybean acreage was left unchanged this week at 91.0 million acres with a higher bias and it is possible that the soybean acreage could increase 1-2 million acres. The 2022 U.S. soybean yield was left unchanged at 51.5 bu/ac and the production was left unchanged this week at 4.64 billion bushels with a higher bias.
Cool temperatures during the first half of June will slow the soybean emergence and development and keep the crop developing slower-than-normal. Cool weather will also slow the maturity of the winter wheat which could push back the planting of the double crop soybeans.
