2022/23 Safrinha Corn in Brazil 70% Planted vs. 80% Last Year
The 2022/23 safrinha corn planting in Brazil was 70% as of late last week compared to 80% last year. This represents an advance of 15% for the week. The safrinha corn in Mato Grosso is 89.3% planted while only 26% of the safrinha corn has been planted in Parana.
Nationwide, approximately 37% of the safrinha corn will be planted after their ideal planting window has closed according to Patria AgroNegocios
Mato Grosso – The safrinha corn in Mato Grosso was 89.3% planted as of late last week compared to 94% last year and 89.6% average. This represents an advance of 16% for the week. The most advanced planting is in the mid-north region where 96% of the corn has been planted. After a slow start, the planting is now ending at the average time.

Parana – The safrinha corn in Parana was 26% planted as of last week according to Deral. The corn was 55% germinating, 45% in vegetative development and rated 1% average and 99% good. A large part of the safrinha corn in the state will be planted after the ideal planting window has closed which increases the risk of frost before the corn has a chance to mature. Deral is estimating the safrinha corn crop in Parana at 15.3 million tons, which is essentially unchanged from their January estimate.
Mato Grosso do Sul – The Agriculture and Livestock Federation of Mato Grosso do Sul (Famasul) estimated that farmers in the state had planted 19.1% of the safrinha corn compared to 35% last year and 46% average. The planting is 16% behind last year and 27% behind average due to the delayed soybean harvest.
