2022/23 Argentina Corn 14.7% Harvested vs. 25% Last Year

Even though it was a terrible growing season for both the corn and soybeans in Argentina, it seems like the corn has fared better than the soybeans. Therefore, the corn yields was left unchanged this week at 36.0 million tons.

Corn in Argentina was 14.7% harvested as of late last week, which was up 2% for the week. In the core production areas, the corn is 45-50% harvested with 5-15% harvested in southern Argentina and 0% harvested in far northern Argentina. The early planted corn is 35% harvested while the later planted corn is 35% filling grain.

Corn yields in Argentina continue to be disappointing and below expectations. The average nationwide yield thus far is 4,110 kg/ha (65.3 bu/ac), which is up 3.3 bu/ac from the prior week. Localized frost last week in parts of southeastern Buenos Aires impacted some of the later developing corn.

The corn in Argentina was rated 54% poor/very poor, 40% fair, and 6% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage is unchanged from the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn was rated 45% short/very short and 55% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum increased 1% from the prior week.
